Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez meets NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg in Madrid
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday to mark the 40th anniversary of Spain’s entry into the alliance.
The prime minister’s office said on Sunday the meeting took place at the Quintos de Mora country estate in Los Yebenes, south of the Spanish capital, with Sanchez and Stoltenberg holding working meetings ahead of the next EU summit. NATO, which will be held in Madrid on June 29 and 30, the Xinhua news agency reported.
Sanchez tweeted: “Working weekend with Jens Stoltenberg, ahead of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Spain joining NATO. Prepared to host the next NATO summit, at a historic moment for the Alliance in the defense of peace and security.
Monday’s ceremony will bring together Sanchez, Stoltenberg and King Felipe VI of Spain.
