Former Nevada basketball star Cameron Oliver, who briefly played in the NBA this season, has signed a contract with Unicaja Baloncesto Malaga and will end the season with the Spanish club.

The 6-foot-8 ultra-athlete has spent most of this season with the South Bay Lakers, earning a 10-day contract from the Atlanta Hawks in December when the NBA was hit by a rash of COVID-positives. 19. In two games at Atlanta, Oliver averaged 11.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 66.7 percent. He then went into COVID-19 protocols and did not receive a second 10-day contract from Atlanta.

Oliver spent training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers and recorded 18 games for the team’s G League franchise, averaging 13.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1 .3 interceptions and 1.2 blocks per game. His last game with South Bay was on Wednesday.

“Trained at the University of Nevada and with time in the NBA and the Australian and Israeli leagues, he is a player who stands out for his versatility to play in different positions and who has great defensive potential,” said the club in a statement.

Last season, Oliver was playing in Australia when he was released from his contract back in the United States due to complications from his wife’s pregnancy. He was then signed by the Houston Rockets and made his NBA debut, averaging 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds on 57.6 percent shooting in four games.

The 25-year-old opted to finish this season in Europe rather than wait for another potential call-up from the NBA, as overseas deals are usually far more financially lucrative. Unicaja Baloncesto Malaga plays in Liga ACB, the highest level of Spanish basketball, which includes 18 teams. The team is 8-12, good for 12th place in the league.

Oliver, who played two seasons for Nevada from 2015 to 2017 before turning professional, also played in Israel in addition to two seasons in Australia and three in the G League. A two-time All-Mountain West winner at Nevada, Oliver averaged 14.7 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in 73 games for the Wolf Pack, leading Nevada to two MW titles and an NCAA Tournament berth. 2017.
