State broadcaster Radio Television Española (RTVE) received an award from the Generalitat for this year’s BenidormFest.
The gala series, televised live from Benidorm earlier this year, was staged to select Spain’s 2022 bid for the Eurovision Song Contest.
The Premis Turisme Comunitat Valenciana awards, now in their ninth edition, reward events and campaigns that stand out for their originality both from the point of view of the companies and the tourist destinations concerned.
Benidorm Mayor Toni Perez, who was present in the city of Valencia for the ceremony, said that was clearly the case with RTVE’s “Tourism Promotion and Communication” award.
“The alliance between BenidormFest and Benidorm has united the potential of the city and the concept of Eurovision, intensifying Spain’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest,” Perez said.
“It changed the procedure for selecting the Spanish song and its representative, increasing interaction with a young audience and choosing Benidorm as the setting for this new challenge,” he added.
“BenidormFest has set a benchmark for Spanish music in our country and abroad,” said RTVE’s director of communications and participation, Maria Eizaguirre, as she accepted the award, accompanied by the director of production and the media, Jose Luis Muñiz.
Toni Mayor, who has close ties to Benidorm as a local hotelier and president of the Valencia Region Hoteliers Association Hosbec, also received an award in recognition of his long career and service to tourism.
