AHSAA Volleyball State Championship Tournament Field Set

The 51st annual AHSAA State Volleyball Championship tournament ground has 56 championship contending teams in seven classes.

Six reigning state champions are among the field after super regional play in the North and South sent four teams from each class and each regional, played in Huntsville and Montgomery.

All six reigning champions won first place in the super regional game. The # 1 seeds returning to defend the titles are Class 6A North Mountain Brook, Class 5A South Bayside Academy, Class 4A South Montgomery Academy, Class 3A South Trinity, Class 2A North Addison and Class 1A South Bayshore Christian.

Hoover, last year’s Class 7A champion, was beaten by Spain Park in super regional first-round action.

The other No. 1 seeds are class 7A Spain Park (north) and McGill-Toolen (south), class 6A Saraland (south), class 5A East Limestone (north), class 4A Westminster Christian (north), Class 3A Plainview (north)), Class 2A Orange Beach (South) and Class 1A Donoho (North).

Classes 6A, 5A, 3A and 2A will play quarterfinal and semi-final matches at the Crossplex on Tuesday with championships scheduled for Bill Harris Arena on Wednesday.

Classes 7A, 4A and 1A play quarter-final and semi-final matches on Wednesday, and title matches are scheduled for Thursday.

CLASS 7A

First round, Wednesday

North 4: Grissom (26-23) vs. South 1: McGill-Toolen (37-11), 10:30 a.m.

South 3: Fairhope (29-16) c. North 2: Thompson (28-11), 10:30 a.m.

South 4: Business (37-12) vs. North 1: Spain Park (44-4), 10:30 a.m.

North 3: Sparkman (50-12) vs. South 2: Auburn (39-16), 10:30 a.m.

Semi final: 3 p.m.

Championship: Thursday, noon

CLASS 6A

First round, Tuesday

North 4: Hazelnut green (28-14) vs. South 1: Saraland (52-4), 10:30 a.m.

South 3: Saint-Paul (43-9) vs. North 2: Athens (35-17), 10:30 a.m.

South 4: Saint James (22-1) vs. North 1: Mountain Brook (39-12), 10:30 a.m.

North 3: Wood from the house (30-14) vs. South 2: Northridge (34-17), 10:30 a.m.

Semi final: 4:00 p.m.

Championship: Wednesday, 12:30 p.m.

CLASS 5A

South 3: Pike route (23-12) vs. North 2: Brewer (28-24), noon

South 4: Sylacauga (29-10) vs. North 1: Eastern limestone (43-6), noon

North 3: Lawrence County (46-19) vs. South 2: Providence Christian (28-19), noon

Semi final: 6:00 p.m.

Championship: Wednesday, 2:30 p.m.

CLASS 4A

First round, Wednesday

North 4: Good Hope (29-13) vs. South 1: Montgomery Academy (25-15), noon

South 3: Saint Michael (32-11) vs. North 2: Madison County (38-15), noon

South 4: North side (20-8) vs. North 1: Christian de Westminster (38-8), noon

CLASS 1A

Semi final: 3 p.m.

Championship: Thursday, 10:00 a.m.
